Real life is more complex than a series and rules, regulations, and laws set down in a book somewhere, written and signed off on by politicians (those people who toil away in a profession that has never been subject to corruption, deceit, ignorance, and negligence in the past, right?). The Town of Islip victimized each and every one of us that received a ticket. Town of islip parking ticket full#It is terribly obvious that the Town of Islip waited until their trap was nice and full of victims (for the record, this is known as a honeypot), then unleashed their parking-ticket, flashlight-wielding Weapons of Mass Revenue upon the citizens of this county. And that's exactly what this is: complete and utter bullshit. After I realized what had happened I drove back to that spot and saw multiple crumpled and discarded tickets on the ground, left behind by multiple individuals who, I think it’s safe to assume, also saw this for what it is, and resolutely called bullshit. How can I tell that it was so transparent? Because of all those papers I passed on the way back to my car. It was a pleasant surprise, then, when the days and weeks went by and I remained ticket-free.įortunately or unfortunately it will be painfully clear to anyone impacted by this predatory and shameful behavior that the cones blocking access to the new parking spots were removed after the morning rush hour was through, after people had already begun parking in various unmarked spots. It would've sucked and yeah I would've been angry about that too, but I would have expected it. It would've been a shameful and opportunistic tactic that, unfortunately in my experience, is not below law enforcement and town officials. Frankly while the construction was ongoing and I was parking on curbs and at the end of aisles I was completely expecting to return to my car in the evening to find a ticket. I have no issue with that (actually I do, but that's a topic for another day), so congratulations Islip - you got me. ![]() And you know what I did in those situations? I plead guilty, because I was guilty of the crime, and I sent in my check for $75. I admit I'm guilty of procrastinating just as much as the next person. Now, in all my time driving and parking at the train station, I've been ticketed a few times, and honestly those were completely warranted and were related to expired inspection stickers. By 7:30AM there simply was not any other place to park your car. Town of islip parking ticket drivers#For example, parking on grassy areas that weren't normally taken up until after the morning rush hour was complete (this in turn left the late-morning rush hour drivers with even fewer options than they already had), parking at the ends of the already full aisles (see bottom), and even parking on the curbs at the ends of the aisles. Construction started about one month ago and since they removed access to this non-paved area as part of the construction all of the cars that used to park there, myself included, had to resort to even more drastic measures and find newer 'pastures'. Folks had parked there for as long as I can remember because, big surprise, there was a daily lack of available parking. In a much needed and long overdue effort to increase capacity, the powers at be finally decided to clear out a section of trees between the parking lot and Railroad Ave, in a spot where, up until that point, people had been parking on the 'grass'/non-paved area. ![]()
